Hi readers!
As we observe a lot of hostility being levelled at DEI work, we wanted to remind ourselves that DEI has achieved positive progress in the workplace.
In the spirit of positivity, let’s highlight some of DEI’s biggest wins in 2024:
Breaking the Glass Ceiling: 2024 saw record numbers of women stepping into CEO roles across the globe! Companies are finally embracing diversity in leadership, with women now holding more than 30% of Fortune 500 CEO positions. That's a huge leap forward, showing we’re heading in the right direction. Gender Pay Gap Shrinks: The gender pay gap is officially on the decline, with multiple countries and companies committing to closing the gap in 2024. While there’s still work to be done, this year’s progress shows a positive shift towards equal pay for equal work. (Source: OECD)
Paid Menstrual Leave: Some major companies, like Nike and Meta, are rolling out paid menstrual leave for employees, supporting the well-being of women in the workforce. This move is a major step in creating a more inclusive and understanding work environment for women. (Source: Financial Times)
Corporate Diversity Lives: Tech giants like Apple are still investing in diversity programmes, seeing a rise in underrepresented groups in their workforce this year. A more diverse team is not just good for inclusion – it sparks innovation too! (Source: Apple Annual Report 2024)
Mental Health Awareness Takes the Spotlight: 2024 has been a year of prioritising mental health in the workplace. Companies are offering more well-being initiatives, including mental health days and counselling support for employees, ensuring everyone feels supported in their roles. (Source: WHO)
Progress is happening, and the progress is a reminder to keep doing the work of creating workplaces where everyone can thrive.
