If you struggle to say "no" at work, try this
Saying "no" is hard: here's how to make it easier
Hi readers,
Today is a big day at Hustle Crew, we are hosting our staged reading of “The First Woke War” in celebration of International Women’s Day.
It’s SOLD OUT and thanks to your help we also successfully funded our Kickstarter. We are currently 152% funded.
It’s not too late to donate, you can make a late pledge via this link.
Enforcing better boundaries
Saying NO isn’t selfish–it’s self-care. In high-pressure work environments protecting your time, energy, and peace is non-negotiable. Saying “no” or setting limits doesn’t make you difficult or mean; it makes you intentional and clear.
Here are some phrases to help you protect your boundaries (without the guilt):
🗣️ "I’m not available for this, but I hope everything goes well"
A firm but kind way to say no without over-explaining.
🗣️ "I’ll need more time to think about this before I commit"
Helps avoid reflexive ‘yes’s’ when you’re unsure.
🗣️ "I don’t have the capacity to take this on right now"
Reminds people that your plate isn’t endlessly expandable.
🗣️ "I prefer to keep this part of my life private"
A gentle way to set boundaries around personal topics.
🗣️ "I appreciate the invite, but I’ll have to pass this time"
A go-to for declining without offending.
🗣️ "That rate doesn’t work for me, but I’m happy to discuss further if you have flexibility"
A clear, professional way to set financial boundaries without shutting down the conversation.
🗣️ "That’s not something I feel comfortable with"
Clear, direct, and respectful—a boundary-setting classic.
🗣️ "I’d love to support, but I can only do [specific offer]"
Useful when you want to help but on your own terms.
🗣️ "This isn’t aligned with my priorities right now"
Professional and polite, especially in work contexts.
🗣️ "I need to step away for a bit to recharge"
A great way to protect your energy without overjustifying.
